Enoch and Adell

Enoch and Adell were both born and raised in East Texas. Adell was born and raised in Mt. Enterprise in Rusk County, per Census records. Enoch was raised in Panola County, per his 1941 draft registration card. His birth city is not certain yet. Click on the surnames below for information on their posterity and ancestry.

Bryant/Hartsfield

Rev. John and Mary (Hartsfield) Bryant are Adell's parents. Click here to learn more about their lives on the 80 acres they owned in Mt. Enterprise and about John's mom from Africa.

Isaac/Walton

Adell's first child, Viola (Isaac) Walton, was with an East Texas man named Landon Isaac. Not many of Adell's current family knew of Viola's dad. Now we do!

Ross/Smiley

Enoch's parents are Tom and Mary Ann (Smiley) Ross. Tom was among five mulatto children of a black woman, Mary Ross. Mary was possibly enslaved by the father or uncle of her children's dad, Dr. Griff Ross, town doctor in Mt. Enterprise.

Tatum/Wrigley

Adell's first husband, Homer Tatum, was a soldier in WWI. He died a couple years into their marriage, though it is not clear it if was related to his enlistment.
